Nizhny Novgorod

Alexander Nevsky Novoyarmarka Cathedral

Description:

The path of any guest of the city of Nizhny Novgorod will necessarily lie past the well-known Alexander Nevsky Novoyarmark Cathedral in the country. It is considered the 3rd largest in Russia. The construction of the temple took fourteen years. The cathedral was consecrated in 1881, under Emperor Alexander III.

In the Soviet Union, they wanted to demolish the cathedral, and in its place the Communists were going to build a monument to V. I. Lenin. It was closed, property seized. But the plans failed, so it was used for a long time as a warehouse. During the war, a fire destroyed many of the frescoes on the building, and there were weapons on the roof protecting the city. Already at the end of the 20th century, the cathedral began its work again.

The cathedral is a great cultural value of our country, long-term and with its own history. It is visited not only by believers, Orthodox, but also tourists from different parts of the globe. It is located in the historical part of the city. The nearest metro station is Strelka. There are buses and taxis, easy to get there.
