The Temple of the Resurrection of Christ
ooh Shevchenko, 7th building a, Nizhny Novgorod, Russia
Description:
The church in the name of the Resurrection of Christ was built in 1884-1886 on the accumulations of Nizhny Novgorod merchant A. I. Priezzhev and was consecrated by the Bishop of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas Modesta in 1886.
The Resurrection Church was a construction of unique architecture: it was one tent, had a 40-meter bell tower, as well as an area equal to 750 square meters. Initially, the temple had three thrones.
The main shrine of the temple was the icon of the holy Great Martyr and healer Panteleimon. In the altar of the temple was kept the ancient Gospel in a silver salary and a magnificent shroud work. The walls of the church were decorated with paintings on biblical motifs.
In 1920, the church was closed, and during the war the structure of the temple was adapted as a bakery. In 1999, the structure of the church was returned to the Nizhny Novgorod diocese, after which divine services were resumed here - in addition to the temple.
Nowadays, the main structure of the temple is being revived. In 2006, residents of Nizhny Novgorod celebrated the 120th anniversary of the consecration of the church.
