d. Nizhny Novgorod, St. George Congress, 3
Description:
Alexander Garden is the first classical public park in Nizhny Novgorod. It is located within the boundaries of the Lower and Upper Volga embankments, on the slopes of the Volga River. Currently, the area of the garden is 35 hectares.
The design of the Alexander Garden, created by the famous architect Karl Petzold, was approved on October 6, 1836. In turn, construction work began in 1837. For two years, serpentine paths were formed, the territory was leveled and tree trees were planted. Alexander Garden immediately became a favorite place for visitors and locals, it fully justified itself as a public park. F.I. Chaliapin, A.M. Gorky and other famous personalities loved to come here.
After the end of the Great Patriotic War, a monumental Chkalov staircase was built in the park. Also, there were terraces on which rows of linden and blue fir trees were planted. They gave this part of the Alexander Garden a special solemnity and parade. Near the Chkalov staircase, an open concert venue was established, which for a long time served as a venue for concerts and music festivals. In 2004, a hotel of the same name was built in the park with office space and a restaurant. The atmosphere in the Alexander Garden distracts from everyday problems, everyday life and brings joy and psychological relief to the lives of visitors.
