603082, N. Novgorod, Nizhny Novgorod district, Kremlin, Archangel Cathedral.
Description:
Nizhny Novgorod has always attracted parishioners and tourists with a large number of shrines: temples, cathedrals, churches. One of such attractions of the spiritual side of the city is the Michalo-Arkhangelsk Cathedral.
The cathedral is considered one of the oldest stone temples in Nizhny Novgorod. In 1221, the temple was erected wooden, and a few years later replaced by stone. The final construction and restoration was completed in 1631.
Michalo-Arkhangelsk Cathedral is a tent memorial temple in which the prayer hall is united with the bell tower by a common space, and thereby forms a two-tent asymmetrical composition. According to the plan, the cathedral is a rectangle with three porches, aimed at the countries of the world and a three-part altar. The paperwork, located behind, is shifted to the north, and therefore the main entrance is shifted from the central axis. Papert facing north is made in the form of a trapezoid, and this allows you to balance the bell superstructure. The inner entrance to the temple is more gentle.
The cathedral differs from other temples in age, architectural features and rich artistic decoration.
