Description:
The monument to the legendary test pilot was unveiled on December 15, 1940, the second anniversary of his death. The author of the sculpture was a friend of V. P. Chkalov I. A. Mendelevich, with whom they chose this place for the monument to A. M. Gorky. On the surface of the pedestal, the contours of the map of the Northern Hemisphere are plotted, indicating the routes of the flights of the heroic crew of Chkalov-Baydukov-Belyakov to the Far East and through the North Pole to America.
