Annenkova Monument n
d. Nizhny Novgorod, the intersection of Noble and Big Pokrovskaya streets
Description:
The Annenkov monument is located on one of the pedestrian streets in the center of Nizhny Novgorod. Participant of the Decembrist movement Ivan Alexandrovich Annenkov took an active part in the life of the city, where after 30 years of exile to Siberia he and his wife, Polina Goebl, were allowed to settle. But the sculptural composition captured the Decembrist - an honorary resident of Nizhny Novgorod - not at the time of serious "reflections on the fate of the homeland."
The married couple Annenkov became a symbol of loyalty and love - after all, the story of the meeting and the difficult forced journey of a French fashionista, the daughter of an army officer Napoleon, after the condemned Decembrist is known to many. Lyubov Annenkov and Goebl formed the basis of the plot of Dumas’ novel “The Teacher of Fencing” (I.A. Annenkov met with a writer who visited Nizhny Novgorod in 1858) and was reflected in the film “Star of captivating happiness” by V. Motyl.
