Monument to Eugene Evstigneev

Nizhny Novgorod is the hometown of Evgeny Alexandrovich Evstigneev, a popular actor of the era of Soviet cinematography. We all remember him for many films, including “Winter Evening in Gagra”, “Old New Year”, “Guardians, go!” and, of course, for the role of Professor of the Transfiguration film “Heart of a Dog”.

A bronze monument to the great actor was erected for his 80th birthday in September 2006 on the day of the city. Its creator is sculptor Vladimir Polyansky.

Located on the Theater Square, next to the Nizhny Novgorod Drama Theater named after Gorky, bronze Evstigneev sits on a bench with a cloak thrown over his leg and a hat in his hands. A distinctive feature of the monument is a shiny nose, which any crouched by a passerby can symbolically rub.

Anyone who remembers and loves the unsurpassed People’s Artist of the USSR Evgeny Evstigneev, his creativity and talent, will not be able to pass by the monument to the brilliant actor.
