Monument to Cosmonaut Komarov

Monument to the cosmonaut, twice hero of the Soviet Union, V. M. Komarov, installed in the city of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.

V. M. Komarov is one of the first conquerors of space, tragically died during his second flight. Initially, the spacewalk was successful, but when the cosmonaut returned to Earth, the main parachute of the device did not come out and eventually Komarov died.

The monument is installed in the area of Friendship Street, not far from the Zarechnaya metro station, and is a granite pedestal with a memorial tablet on which a stone figure of an astronaut is installed. In his right hand, raised up, he holds a book, and in his left, lowered down, he holds a hammer. Behind the statue of the astronaut stands a huge, above the figure of the sickle.
