Monument to Minin and Pozharsky
Description:
Quite famous is the monument to Minin and Prince Pozharsky, which is installed on Red Square in Moscow, but quite few people know that in Nizhny Novgorod there is an exact, slightly reduced copy. The monument is dedicated to the leaders of the second Zemstvo militia. The authors of the project were famous sculptors Tsereteli and Martos.
The figures of D. Pozharsky and K. Minin cast from bronze were installed on a pedestal made of red granite. Prince Pozharsky rests on a sword with one hand and the other on a shield. Nearby is Minin, who points with his right hand the direction to Moscow, as if calling on Pozharsky to assemble a militia to liberate the capital. On the pedestal is engraved the inscription: “To Prince Pozharsky and citizen Minin grateful Russia”. The monument was opened on November 4, 2005. It was consecrated by Patriarch Alexy II.
