The most famous Russian literary critic Nikolai Dobrolyubov was a native of Nizhny Novgorod. His name is familiar to the entire world community, and his analytical and journalistic articles still help to better understand the essence of many literary works. In honor of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Nikolai Alexandrovich Dobrolyubov in his homeland, in Nizhny Novgorod, on January 31, 1986, a monument was opened.

The monument to Dobrolyubov is located near the house where the writer was born (Pozharsky Street, 5), on the square next to the Drama Theater, in the cozy square of Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street. The authors of the monument are sculptor P.I. Gusev, honorary resident of the city of Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod), People’s Artist of the RSFSR, and B.S. Nelyubin, Honored Architect of the RSFSR.
