Monument to the Founder of the City to the Holy Grand Duke Georgy Vsevolodovich and his mentor Saint

In Nizhny Novgorod there are many interesting architectural monuments, but one of the most majestic can be called a monument to the founder of the city, which is officially called a monument to Prince George Vsevolodovich and St. Simon of Suzdal.

This monument is located in the Kremlin of Nizhny Novgorod, near the Michael-Arkhangelsk Cathedral. The sculpture, as already mentioned, is dedicated to the founder of Nizhny Novgorod, Grand Duke George Vsevolodovich and his mentor St. Simon of Suzdal. The authors of the monument are the Nizhny Novgorod sculptor Viktor Purichov, the monument itself was made in the workshop of the city of Zhukovsky.

The monument is cast in bronze and supplemented with granite, its height is 7 meters. The pedestal of the sculpture is fixed with a cast-iron slab in the form of a scroll with the inscription: "To the founder of the city to the holy Grand Duke George Vsevolodovich and his mentor St. Simon from Nizhny Novgorod."

The opening of the monument took place on February 17, 2008. In all the churches of Nizhny Novgorod on this day served festive liturgy. The monument was consecrated by Archbishop George of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas.
