ooh Malaya Yamskaya, 78A, Nizhny Novgorod, Nizhny Novgorod region, Russia
Description:
In Nizhny Novgorod, near the fire station No. 50 of the EMERCOM of Russia, a monument dedicated to firefighters who died in the explosion of the tanker TN-602 of the Sormovsk oil depot was installed. This terrible incident occurred on August 1, 1977. In extinguishing the fire, 24 firefighters and 9 crew members of the tanker died. Another 28 people received severe burns and injuries.
On the shore itself, or rather the cliff where all this happened, an obelisk is also installed at the pier of the oil depot. It depicts a bursting flame.
The firefighter monument is a sculpture of a firefighter the minute he fights a fire. With his left hand, the young rescuer presses the child to his chest, and with his right he tries to shield him from the fire. This monument is a symbol of the memory of all firefighters who died in the line of duty on the fiery front, saving other lives. The area around the pedestal is lined with tiles, birch trees and blue fir trees grow nearby.
Every year on August 1, Nizhny Novgorod firefighters initiate and accept new, young firefighters.
