The Salt Scam Monument
christmas street, 8, Nizhny Novgorod, Russia
Description:
Monument "Salt scam", installed on Christmas street in Nizhny Novgorod, is 2 cast-iron galoshes 58 size with bags of salt, which stand near the galoshes.
The sculpture is directly related to the memorable event that occurred in 1864, when after the flood all the salt warehouses on the banks of the Oka were empty. Over time, it turned out that the salt disappeared even before the flood - it was stolen by several merchants who later escaped punishment. Then the father of one of the merchants gave his son huge shoes with the teaching to wear once a year and remember the honor of the family.
Locals believe that if you stand in the galoshes and look towards the Stroganov temple, the Salt Scam will certainly bring the gift of generosity to every curious visitor to the monument.
