Gorky Square
Description:
One of the central Nizhny Novgorod squares got its name in honor of the Russian and Soviet writer, the founder of the literary direction of socialist realism, Maxim Gorky.
The square, located at the intersection of the street of the same name and Bolshaya Pokrovskaya, is the second most visited and largest place in the city. I especially liked the guests and residents of the city square.
At the very beginning of the nineteenth century, a ravine with swamps was located on this place. It was only after the visit of Emperor Nicholas I that the plan for reconstruction was approved.
The main attraction of the square is currently represented by the sculpture of the writer, the authorship of which belongs to the famous architects V.V. Lebedev and P.P. Steller, and the famous sculptor V.I. Mukhina.
