River Imsa

village Sand, Knyaginsky district, Nizhny Novgorod region

Description:

The name of the river is translated from Mordovian as "raspberry". Previously, the place where Izma flowed was a lot of raspberries. Locals planted her whole plantations and sold in the markets. At one time, this was the main income until the shrubs died during the drought. No one has bred the raspberry for a long time, and the name by the river has taken root for centuries.

The river itself is not very long. It's about 90 kilometers long. The total area is just over 700 square kilometers. Isma is a very narrow but deep river. Its banks are gentle, although places with steep cliffs are not excluded.

The floodplain is rich in vegetation. There are even rare species that are listed in the Red Book. From the fauna in the territory where Izma passes, you can meet boars, hares, foxes, beavers, badgers and many others. Also, the region is known for its game. From the water you can watch wild geese and ducks, chibis, haryankas and nightingales.
