Sundovik River

Sundovik River, Liskovo, Lower Embankment Street 2, 606210

Description:

The Sundovik River in the Nizhny Novgorod region is the right tributary of the Volga, the basin of which extends through several districts - Bolshemurashkin, Dalkonstantinovsky and Lyskovsky. The origin of the unusual name is most likely due to the Mordovian word “sandey”, which translates as “reed”. In a number of sources, another version is often found, according to which the name comes from the word “suna”, meaning thread or vein.

For several centuries Sundovik is mentioned as a navigable bay, which has a spacious and convenient for parking or wintering vessels mouth. Today, the river waters are rich in carp and perch, spruce and glue, holavl and roach, sander, as well as pike and tan. The source is located five kilometers from the village of Kartmazovo, and along the river there are several large settlements.
