Description:
The sculpture “George the Victorious on a horse, striking a snake” is located in the very center of the city of Nizhny Novgorod – on the territory of the Kremlin, near the Dmitriev Tower. The sculpture is part of the memorial “Gorkovchans to the Front”. The solemn opening of the memorial took place in 1975, twenty years later a bronze sculpture of George the Victorious appeared here. The authors of the monument are Honored Artist of Russia T.G. Holuyeva and architect V.D. Vasiliev.
In 1995, the anniversary year of the Great Victory, the city administration decided to install a monument - a symbol of victory, in memory of the descendants of the immortal feat of countrymen who did not spare their strength, talent, work and life for the general victory. The authors presented a non-standard project, which was approved. The bronze sculpture of the Great Martyr George the Victorious on a horse stands on a four-sided granite stele. With a firm hand, George strikes a snake exhausted from the struggle with his spear. The sculpture is symbolically placed in the center of the exhibition of weapons, which during the Great Patriotic War was forged in Nizhny Novgorod.
On the polished surface of the pedestal is carved the inscription: "Defenders of the Motherland in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945)". Around the monument there are flower beds that give the monument a special festiveness.
