Minin Street 1
Nizhny Novgorod, Minin Street, 1
Description:
“First House” is an interesting attraction of Nizhny Novgorod, a house of 6 floors, originally intended for senior officials of the regional administration. The house was built in 1937 and designed by a talented architect A. Yakovlev. The house is a curious example of Stalinist architecture, and some of its elements remind us of the Renaissance.
The “First House”, as it is called here, has a U-shaped shape, its front facade overlooks Minin and Pozharsky Square. At the heart of the composition of the house number 1 is a grid of large windows, which is complemented by a powerful basement, portals entrances and rows of balconies on the upper floors of the building also have an important compositional value. The integrity of the composition is given by horizontal thrusts, richly decorated with various details.
In the exterior decoration of the house, decorative terracite plaster is actively used.
In the 1950s, a bust of Kuzma Minin was installed in front of the house, its author is the sculptor A.V. Kikin.
