Nizhny Novgorod

Monument to the inventor Ivan Kulibiin.

Description:

“God has punished me with a son,” the father of the famous self-taught mechanic Ivan Kulibin chastised friends. "He'll be no good." What bothered a hardworking parent? From an early age, the interests of the boy were different from those of his peers. The father often complained to his neighbors about the negligence of his son, who, instead of sitting in a flour shop and calling customers, indulged in “bad things”; he carved various toys out of wood, disappeared all day in forges on the Volga. Perhaps only once did my father approve of the boyish ingenuity. Ivan built elaborate dams, collected key water and directed it to a pond where his father had fish falling asleep from standing water. From the pond, Ivan, through the lock he built, released standing water, thereby making running water in his father's cage. The exhortations of a strict parent did not repel the inquisitive child’s passion for technical knowledge and invention. The trail of the Nizhny Novgorod inventor in history is eternal. (Based on the materials of Y. Galai’s book “Descendants” by I. P. Kulibin). More information on excursions to places associated with the name of Ivan Kulibin in Nizhny Novgorod.
