The headquarters collected some of the documents and materials necessary for the museum.
From 1965 to February 1971 in many schools and enterprises were collected valuable exhibits, materials on the history of Beloyarsk, Chesnokovka, Bazhov. They include photos, personal documents, things, household items. On February 2, 1971, the Executive Committee of the City Council of Workers’ Deputies decided to open a museum in Novoaltaisk. The history of the Novoaltai City Museum of Local History is inextricably linked with the name of the honorary citizen of the city of Novoaltaisk, holder of the Order of Lenin Vasily Yakovlevich Marusin. Back in the years of work as the director of school No. 10, returning with the guys from the hikes, he brought many interesting exhibits to school and home. Closer to the middle of the 60s, Vasily Yakovlevich moved to work as a director of the Knigotorg store. For several years, within the walls of his office, he collected all sorts of household items, minerals, ancient books, medals, coins and other things, which later became the first exhibits of the Novoaltai Museum. Exhibits were also accumulated in the school museums of the city. On May 8, 1972, the museum was inaugurated. During the first two days, more than 2000 citizens visited the museum. For two years the museum was visited by about 19 thousand visitors. Frequent guests of the museum were residents of villages and cities of the country.
