Catholic Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Lord
maxim Gorky Street, 100 Novosibirsk
Description:
The Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Novosibirsk is the main temple of the Roman Catholic Church of the Transfiguration diocese. The temple is now headed by Bishop Joseph Vert.
The temple was built in 1997, and initiated its construction by the local Catholic community, in the twentieth century numbering about 4,000 people. A prayer house was built for them in 1902. It was later destroyed. With the expansion of Catholic parishioners in Novosibirsk, a large main cathedral was built, in which the first mass was celebrated in 1994 by Archbishop Francesco Colasuonno.
The architecture of the temple combines Romanesque, Gothic and Modernist styles. The three-part roof of the cathedral symbolizes the three bushes of which the Apostle Peter spoke on the day of the Transfiguration.
