Central Siberian Botanical Garden in Novosibirsk

d. Novosibirsk, St. Golden Dolinskaya, 101

Description:

The Central Siberian Botanical Garden of SB RAS is the largest research botanical institution located in the Asian part of Russia.

The Botanical Garden was opened in 1946 thanks to the initiative of V.L. Komarov, academician. The main direction of scientific work in the first years of the garden’s existence is the study of Siberian flora and vegetation for use for economic purposes, as well as the improvement of existing cultivated plants and the introduction of new species into the Siberian culture of plants. In 1953, the Botanical Garden left the Biological Institute and became an independent research institution.

It is noteworthy that the collection of plants of the garden sometimes reached 14 thousand species. However, due to the reduction of funding for the institute, the deterioration of the crime situation and other reasons, the number of species represented in the garden has significantly decreased. Today, new exhibitions are being created in the garden, for example, “Stony Hill”, “Bonsai”, “Garden of Continuous Blooming”, etc.
