Heroes of the Revolution Square in Novosibirsk
d. Novosibirsk, Red Prospect, 32
Description:
In the center of Novosibirsk, next to the Lenin House, which today houses the Novosibirsk Philharmonic, there is a small square.
The memorial square in the center of the city appeared in memory of captured Red Army soldiers, shot and hacked by Kolchak during the retreat from the city in 1919. Of the 104 dead, only 37 are known. Among the dead was the first chairman of the Novonikolaev Soviet of Workers, Soldiers and Peasants' Deputies Vasily Romanov.
January 22, 1920 in Novonikolaevsk held a funeral of fighters for the power of the Soviets.
Two years later, on this mass grave, a monument of concrete was erected in the form of a muscular hand that broke through the rock, clutching a burning torch, a symbol of the immortality of the revolutionary feat of the dead. The authors of the monument are the artist V. N. Sibiryakov and the engineer A. I. Kudryavtsev. It was the first monument in the city. After the construction of the Lenin House in 1924-1925 around the mass grave, a square was decorated, called the Heroes of the Revolution Square.
