International Siberian Festival of Snow Sculpture
Krasny Prosp., 23, Novosibirsk, Novosibirsk region, Russia
Description:
The Siberian Snow Sculpture Festival is a creative competition of international importance held annually in Novosibirsk. Since December 2000, professional artists and sculptors from Russia, as well as far and near abroad come to the city every winter. The idea of holding this creative holiday arose thanks to the annual competition of snow festivals in the sister city of Novosibirsk - Sapporo. The initiators of the snow sculpture festival were sculptor Alexander Bortnik and architect Alexander Bulavin. During the festival and exhibition of works, which lasts from 8 to 31 January, police officers are on duty around the clock in the park, ensuring law and order and guarding sculptures.
The festival usually hosts two independent competitions: one for professional artists and sculptors, and the other for children's creative teams. The exhibition of ice and snow figures created by the participants arouses great interest among local residents and guests of the city. Everyone is given the opportunity to freely inspect the exhibition.
