The monument to Mikhail Alekseevich Lavrentiev was established in 1988 in Novosibirsk Akademgorodok. Sculpture G. L. Paramonov tried to most accurately convey in bronze the nature and appearance of the famous Soviet scientist.
The bronze bust of a talented mathematician and mechanic was installed exclusively thanks to the initiative of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences, the founder of which was Lavrentiev. When the competition was already held, the best project was selected and a place was determined for the installation of a pedestal, the city authorities determined the chosen option to be unprofessional and refused to consider it further. However, the sculpture was still made and installed in the intended place.
The city has no choice but to accept the situation. Students, schoolchildren, scientists and ordinary residents of the city still lay flowers at the monument to the great scientist who became famous all over the world for his research and discoveries.
