1a, Novosibirsk, Novosibirsk region, 630007
Description:
The Cathedral in the name of Alexander Nevsky is the most beautiful Orthodox church of Novosibirsk. It is located at the beginning of Red Avenue and Soviet Street. This is one of the first stone buildings in the city, the temple was built in the neo-Byzantine style in 1897-1899.
It is still unclear who was the author of the project of Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. However, no one doubts the main thing: the Church of the Mother of God in St. Petersburg was taken as the basis of this building.
In 1937, the cathedral was closed, attempts were made to blow up the building, but only partitions and the bell tower were destroyed. The movement for the return of the Cathedral of the Church began in 1988, in the year of the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus, but only on May 15, 1991 the Cathedral was consecrated by Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia. Immediately after the transfer of the cathedral, restoration work began.
Now in the temple there are several shrines of Orthodoxy, such as icons and arks with particles of the relics of saints.
