Museum of N. K. Roerich

In the center of Novosibirsk there is a beautiful light green building – the Museum of Nicholas Roerich. It was built by the Siberian Roerich Society by the method of popular construction, that is, by voluntary donations of many people and organizations. The initiator and inspirer of the construction of the Museum is Natalia Dmitrievna Spirina. “The Museum of Nicholas Roerich in Novosibirsk is not just a repository of values and materials, but also an active center for the approach of the bright future,” said Natalia Dmitrievna. The building of the Museum in Novosibirsk began with a complete reconstruction in 1997 of a dilapidated kindergarten (the walls were dismantled almost to the foundation) and was commissioned and solemnly opened on October 7, 2007 (on the eve of the Day of Sergius of Radonezh on October 8 and the Day of Culture - the birthday of Nicholas Roerich - October 9). Now the Museum conducts extensive cultural and educational work: exhibitions, literary and musical slide programs, social and scientific conferences, round tables, concerts. The museum exposition presents photographs of the Roerich family from the archive of the Nicholas Roerich Museum in New York, reproductions of paintings by Nikolai Konstantinovich and Svyatoslav Roerich, as well as traveling exhibitions of other artists; various other exhibits. As Academician M.M. Lavrentiev said, “The Museum of Nicholas Roerich will be one of the natural ways of rapprochement of peoples, an outpost of the Culture that will play a decisive role in the mentality of the coming decades.”
