The museum was founded in 1960 as a laboratory of the Biological Institute of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. The museum is represented by several expositions and a fund of scientific collections. The total volume of collections of vertebrate and invertebrate animals is more than 13 million units of storage for 600 families and 26 thousand species.
