Hiking on the ice of the Baikal

Thanks to the unique features of the lake water, by the beginning of spring, the ice turns into a beautiful work of art - surprisingly transparent, covered with unusual patterns of cracks, and the ice on the rocks are very similar to whipped cream - so they are white and airy!

On the ice hike we will spend the night in warm tents with a stove, so that the Siberian frosts we will not be afraid :

Olkhon Island, around which the hike will take place - this is an amazing place with a unique microclimate - there is a negligible amount of precipitation per year, and the number of sunny days per year - 310. Therefore, you can not worry about the weather – the beginning of March is almost always sunny.
We will spend the night mostly in tents. Therefore, you need to stock up on warm clothes and a good sleeping bag. On the route, there are 5 overnight stays in tents and 2 overnight stays in houses at the tourist base.
A big plus of this hike is that you will not need to carry a backpack on yourself all the time - on the ice we will use sleds, which will greatly facilitate our life.

Among other things, Olkhon is a Buryat place of power - Buddhist and pagan shrines and motifs are intricately intertwined here - practically every place where we will be, is covered with legends and legends - beautiful, wise, and sometimes frightening.

Comments on the complexity of the programme

The trip is difficult, recommended to participants with hiking experience. It is extremely important to pay special attention to the selection of warm clothes and waterproof shoes for a comfortable stay in the cold. A big plus of this hike is that you will not need to carry a backpack on yourself all the time - on the ice we will use sleds, which will greatly facilitate our life. Participants will have to walk from 12 to 22 kilometers per day. Movement on the ice is safe and comfortable in the presence of leacs / icebreakers (special rubberized pads on shoes, sold in stores of medical equipment, orthopedic goods, on aliexpress). We will spend the night in warm tents with a stove, so we will not be afraid of Siberian frosts.
