Tara gate

Spartakovskaya Street, Omsk

Description:

Tara Gate is one of the symbols of the city. They are known for the fact that through them passed exile Fyodor Dostoevsky, who served hard labor in the Omsk prison.

The gate was built in 1792 as the entrance to the Steppe Bastion of the fortress, in which the penal prison was located.

In 1959, the gate was destroyed due to the fact that they did not fit into the surrounding landscape, but later the gate was rebuilt in a new place. The new gate was built in 1991 with some deviations from its original. Within the vault, instead of two niches, four niches were made. In one of the niches was built a door to the stairs leading to the guard room of 30 square meters.

Among Omsk young people there is a sign - if you walk together under the gate and make a wish, it will certainly come true.
