Assumption Cathedral in Omsk
International St., 12, Omsk, Omsk region
Description:
The Assumption Cathedral of Omsk is a unique historical and architectural monument, which is among the largest attractions of Russia.
In 1898, this majestic cathedral was built and it was then called the Ascension Temple. The building was built by Virrich, who in his work took as a basis the project of the Savior on Blood in 1894, which was built in St. Petersburg. It is worth saying that the Omsk Cathedral became not a copy, but only a reworking of the decision, which is quite common in temple architecture. Inside the temple was carved decor and gilded paintings.
In Soviet times, the temple was destroyed and looted, and later blown up. In 2005, it was decided to recreate the Assumption Cathedral. A new temple was consecrated in 2007.
The cathedral is amazingly beautiful both day and night. At night, more than 100 lamps are turned on, which paint the temple in white and blue tones.
