Omsk State Literary Museum named after F.M. Dostoevsky

The museum is located in a historical building - the house of commandants of the Omsk fortress (1799 built). In this house lived Alexei Fedorovich de Grave, the last commandant of the fortress, who gave special protection to convict Dostoevsky.

The exposition of the museum is located in 9 halls and consists of 2 sections: “F.M. Dostoevsky and Siberia” and “Writers-Omichi”.

The story about Dostoevsky briefly covers the entire biography of the writer, the material about the years spent in Siberia is presented in more detail. A separate hall is dedicated to the hard labor period in the life of Fyodor Mikhailovich. The atmosphere of the prison barracks is recreated here. Among the original exhibits are the lifetime editions of F.M. Dostoevsky’s novels, a mourning leaflet published on the day of the writer’s death, a table and a sofa from the literary salon in the house of E.A. Stackenschneider (St. Petersburg), where Dostoevsky visited.

The second section presents the history of the development of the literary process in the Omsk region from the end of the XVII century to the 1990s. Here you can see original manuscripts, books, photographs, documents, personal belongings belonging to Omsk writers. The collections of the museum reflect the history of the formation and development of the literary process in the city of Omsk and the Omsk region. A significant place in the collection is occupied by the personal archives of writers, literary critics, journalists whose life and literary activity are associated with Omsk.
