House-Museum L.N. Andreev

Oryol, Oryol, St. Gunshot 2nd, 41

About the company:

In Orel, on the 2nd Pushkarnaya Street, the house of the Andreev family was preserved. This house spent the childhood and youth years of the future writer, and now it houses the Leonid Andreev Museum. The main exhibit of the museum is the house itself, preserved to this day almost in its original form.

There is a lot to remember about the walls of 41. Remember how Leonid explored the attics and cellars in search of what adults call a single word – garbage, as he read the books of Mein Reed and Jules Verne, dreamed of long sea voyages, and after visiting the theater played whole performances in front of his peers. In this house, the mother Anastasia Nikolaevna helped her son to make the first drawings, taught him to fantasize and taught him to conscious creativity.

The Andreev House is the main exhibit of the museum. Leonid Andreev lived there for seventeen years (from 1874 to 1891), from here he went to study first at St. Petersburg, and then at Moscow University, came here for winter and summer vacancies. Recreating the atmosphere of life and life of the former outskirts of the city of Orel at the end of the XIX century, the exposition of the museum leads visitors to understand the origins of the versatile talents of the talented original person. Along with materials telling about the writer’s literary work, visitors will learn about Leonid Andreev as an artist and photographer. Extraordinary talent, expressed in the most diverse forms of artistic creativity, is the world of Leonid Andreev.

In three exposition rooms on the basis of typological furniture (using personal belongings of the Andreyevs of a later period), the interior of a residential house of the 70-80s of the XIX century was recreated. There is no documentary evidence of the true Andreyev interiors of the Orel house. But some artistic details and descriptions from the works of Leonid Andreev made it possible, if not to recreate, then to approximate the spirit and atmosphere that existed in the house.
