About the company:
Starting its history with the Turgenev memorial collection, the museum gradually expanded its collecting and exposition tasks, accumulating materials dedicated not only to I.S. Turgenev, but also to other outstanding writers, natives of the Orel region, creating branches: first the museum of Orlov writers was opened, then the house-museum of N.S. Leskov, the house of T.N. Granovsky, in 1991 - two branches at once - the L.N. Andreev Museum and the I.A. Bunin Museum. The State Literary Museum of Turgenev plays a significant role in the cultural life of the city and the region, it is widely known not only in Russia, but also abroad. The exposition of the museum reveals to visitors the richest material about the life and creative path of the great writer, who was rightly called the “messenger of Russian culture abroad”. The exposition presents unique books from the personal library of the writer, his images, both photographic and picturesque, including a masterpiece of portrait art - the work of artist K. E. Makovsky. Pride and decoration are memorial items, primarily a table and chair from the Parisian office of the writer and the robe of an honorary member of the University of Oxford, which I.S. Turgenev was awarded in 1879. All the materials included in the exhibition reveal the rich world of this outstanding artist, his bright personality and, of course, his original work.
