Museum of Orlov Writers

Orel region, Orel, Turgenev street, 13

About the company:

The history of the museum began much earlier than its official opening. November 24, 1918 in the halakhov house opened the doors of the Museum-library named after I.S. Turgenev, which began its existence "Writing room named after A.A. Fet". In this room began to collect everything that was related to the memory of talented writers, natives of the Orel province. As the years passed, the accumulated rich material allowed to create the Museum of Orlov writers. Its opening took place on January 2, 1957, in the house where the famous Russian historian and public figure T.N. Granovsky was born. In addition to the exposition dedicated to T.N. Granovsky, the museum presented the names of officially recognized writers - N.S. Leskov, D.I. Pisarev, M.M. Prishvin, and disgraced emigrants - I.A. Bunin and L.M. Andreev. Genuine autographs, portraits, documents, books, furniture gave special value to the museum. In the walls of the house T.N. Granovsky Museum lived almost 20 years, replenished with new exhibits.

On June 11, 1980, a new exposition of the Museum of Orlov Writers was opened in the vacated halls of the Galakhov House (Turgenev’s memorial items moved to the restored writer’s house in Spassky-Lutovinov in 1976). It gave an opportunity to look into the sanctity of each writer - his office. The variety of office corners testified to the tastes and characters: A.A. Feta, I.A. Bunin, L.N. Andreev, M.M. Prishvin, I.A. Ovikov, finally, about the time in which these writers lived, as well as writers of the 20-30-ies of the XX century.

But a museum is a living organism and something is constantly changing. So, in 1991, they received their own museum houses Bunin and Andreev, and the writer B.K. Zaitsev came to their place, the expositions of Prishvin and Fet expanded.

Today, the Halakhov House is reopened to visitors. Priceless collections of memorial items Fet, Zaitsev, Prishvin, Novikov, Andreev – classics of Russian literature are waiting for visitors in the restored museum building, which has become not only a silent witness to the historical past of our country, but also a symbol and conductor of the cultural life of generations.
