About the company:
The museum was founded in 1897 by the Orel Scientific Archival Commission. In the post-revolutionary period, the museum absorbed part of the collections of church-archaeological and military museums, as well as nationalized cultural values. During the Great Patriotic War, museum collections were heavily looted.
In 2011, after a long break, the first stage of the museum’s exposition dedicated to the history of the Orel region opened.
Currently, the exposition of the Orel Museum of Local History includes several sections built on the thematic principle: “Collection” (part of the collections of the museum collection – furniture, clocks, porcelain, bells, samovars, weapons, etc.), “Ethnography”, “Famous people of the Orel region”, “Orthodoxy”, “History of photography in the Orel region”.
A significant area is occupied by a large section "Nature of the Orel Territory", which introduces visitors to the animal and plant world of the Orel Territory. In several halls of the museum, exhibitions are constantly working - artistic, photographic, thematic from the museum funds.
