Lenin Square in Orenburg

d. Orenburg, the crossroads of Soviet and Leninskaya streets

Description:

Leninsky Square is located in the very center of historical Orenburg, at the intersection of Soviet and Leninskaya streets. The square received its name, thanks to the monument to Lenin installed in its center. This is an early monument dating from 1925. An interesting feature is that the height of the monument in 165 centimeters corresponds to the real height of Lenin.

Another interesting small architectural form in the square is a small rotunda gazebo installed in its southern part. Built in the style of classicism, an elegant white gazebo was built in 1837 by the architect Alfeev. In its center is a former fountain sculpture depicting a girl with a jug and children.

Just behind the square stretches a long facade of a beautiful building, built in the early nineteenth century in the style of Russian classicism. At that time, the building was occupied by the City Duma. Since 1962, there are collections of the Orenburg Museum of Fine Arts.

Interestingly, among the inhabitants of the city square is known as the Exchange. They say that before the revolution in the city garden on the site of the current square gathered representatives of the oldest profession. Prices for their services priestesses of love wrote on papers glued to the sole. Seeing a possible client, the women simply lifted their legs.
