About the company:
The Gagarin Memorial Museum Apartment is located in the building of a former merchant mansion, where a young family of the first cosmonaut of the planet lived in a small two-room apartment for several years. Initially, the family of the future wife Gagarin lived here, here in 1957 the wedding of Yuri and Valentina took place. After Gagarin’s flight into space, his wife’s family received a new apartment, and a boarding school was located in the old house, whose employees and pupils created a school museum dedicated to the family of Yuri Gagarin in the former Goryachev apartment.
Work on collecting exhibits for the museum began in 1966, and the official opening of the museum took place on Cosmonautics Day - April 12, 1971, the tenth anniversary of Gagarin's first flight into space. Due to the dilapidation of the building, the boarding school soon had to be closed, and the exhibits of the school museum were sent for storage to the local history museum. The second life of the museum began only in 2001, when the next anniversary of the first human flight into outer space was celebrated.
The exposition of the Gagarin Memorial Museum recreates the atmosphere of the apartment of the middle of the twentieth century. Among the exhibits are authentic objects, furniture, curtains embroidered by Valentina Ivanovna’s hands, family photos. There are also some items that were brought from Star City: souvenirs, astronaut clothes and much more. In 2001, the museum was handed over by the wife of Yuri Gagarin.
