About the company:

The building of the Museum of History of Orenburg was built during the second reign of Orenburg Governor General V.A. Perovsky (1851-1857) in such a style as neo-Gothic (or pseudo-Gothic). The historiographer of Orenburg P.P. Stolpiansky wrote in the XIX century that the city of Orenburg owes the construction of almost three quarters of all buildings: the Caravanserai, the Control Chamber, the Public Assembly, the House of the Treasury Chamber, the barracks - all built under Perovsky. Under Perovsky, serious attention was paid to the improvement of the city. All this was explained by the fact that Vasily Alekseevich sought to give the provincial Orenburg the appearance of a capital city. During his reign, public buildings and institutions appeared, stone houses were built, balls and city festivities became fashionable.

The museum was founded in 1983. This event was timed to the 240th anniversary of the city of Orenburg. The museum consists of nine stationary expositions, telling about the history of the city since ancient times. Exhibitions reveal issues such as:

  • the foundation of the city on the eastern border of Russia;
  • peasant war under the leadership of E. Pugachev;
  • Orenburg to the first floor. XIX century;
  • stay of A.S. Pushkin in Orenburg;
  • architecture of the city, ethnography;
  • edge management;
  • famous people of Russia – M. Karamzin, G. Derzhavin, I. Krylov;
  • researchers of the region - I. Lepekhin, P. Pallas, P. Rychkov, E. Eversman, A. Humboldt.
