The railway station
Description:
Orenburg railway station is one of the largest railway junctions in the Urals. Located one and a half thousand kilometers from the capital, the station is capable of simultaneously receiving about 1,200 passengers, and every hour more than a hundred people are served here. The spacious station complex covers an area of 4100 square meters.
The first railway to Orenburg was built in 1877. Soon, construction of the station building began in the very center of the city. The walls of the spacious building were made of brick and were distinguished by monumentality. It deservedly received the title of "Pearl of the South Ural Railway". The elegant building of the station was created in the classical style of the XIX century, combining European accuracy and Asian flavor. The facades were painted in white and yellow colors and decorated with stucco decorations. Unfortunately, the building has not survived to this day in its original form.
Gradually, as passenger traffic grew, the station could not accommodate all the passengers who had to huddle almost on the floor and stairs. In 1935, the first serious reconstruction was carried out, during which side extensions appeared, due to which the area doubled. In the late 1960s, the second floor was built for the comfort of passengers and an underground passage under the tracks was built. In 2005 another reconstruction was carried out.
