397800, Voronezh region, Ostrogozhsk, Marshaka str., 14

About the company:

The house under the reed roof, where the future painter spent his childhood, is located on Marshak Street in Ostrogozhsk. It was built in the 30s of the XIX century by the artist’s father – Nikolai Matveevich.

The residents of Ostrogozhsk were interested in the participation of the Kramsky house for a long time, they dreamed of creating a museum here. Finally, in 1974 the house was taken under state protection as a cultural monument, and in 1984 restoration work began in the house, during which the size and location of the rooms were preserved, the details of the layout were restored.

In 1987, on the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Nikolaevich Kramsky, the house-museum opened its doors for visitors. To date, it presents the setting that surrounded the gifted boy many years ago.

The main exhibit remaining from the Kramsky family is a two-kopeck coin found under one of the ceiling beams during restoration work. It was this mortgage coin that Nikolai Matveevich Kramskoy placed under the main matrix of the house so that his family lived happily and richly.

The main visitors of the house-museum are boys and girls who, together with teachers, come on interactive excursions, attend events where the museum staff teach to love and respect Russian traditions and customs.
