Humpback bridge
Pavlovsk, St. Petersburg, Russian Federation
Description:
Many travelers who visited Pavlovsk, probably familiar with the picturesque humpback bridge. This engineering structure, located in the depths of the park, is a semicircular arch through a small duct, folded of brick and lined with nostril tuff.
The humpback bridge was built on the initiative of architect Charles Cameron and is one of the main attractions of Pavlovsk Park. The place where the bridge was built was chosen specifically - in the bend of the Slavyanka River. This corner of the park was decorated in a romantic style, and a special charm was given to it by silver willows hanging over the water.
The riverbed was blocked by a small dam of pieces of untreated stone, through which water cascaded. The stone bridge organically fit into this beautiful peaceful picture.
