Museum-Reserve "Pavlovsk"
Russia, Leningrad region, Pavlovsk, str. Garden, 20
Description:
In the city of Pavlovsk there is a state museum-reserve "Pavlovsk", which in the XVIII - early XIX centuries was the summer residence of Emperor Paul I and his family.
One of the largest residences in Europe occupies an area of 600 hectares. This is a magnificent architectural and park ensemble located on the banks of the Slavyanka River. The relief of the banks of the winding river formed the basis of the landscape idea of the park - it looks like a multi-tiered composition, where vegetation and architectural structures alternate and complement each other.
Depending on the features of a particular site, the park is divided into 7 landscape sectors: Palace, Valley of the Slavyanka River, Big Star with a valley of ponds, White Birch, Parade Field, Old Silvia and New Silvia. The central architectural landmark of the park is the palace, a golden-white building located on one of the highest places of the coast. You can also see other wonderful buildings in the park: Pink Pavilion, Apollo Colonnade, Cold Bath, Milk, decorate the park with marble and bronze sculptures. The museum also contains a collection of Russian portraits, picturesque and graphic views of Pavlovsk.
