Fountain - Duboc joke
Description:
Fountain-joke "Oak" is a funny fountain-curiesis in Peterhof. It was originally designed by B.K. Shot in 1735 as part of a fountain in the Upper Garden. In 1802, it was installed in the Lower Garden as part of a composition of several jokes.
Fountain "Oak" is a six-meter metal tree with a hollow trunk, five hundred tubular branches and several thousand metal leaves painted in green, standing on an oval island surrounded by a narrow stream. The streams of water escape from the tips of each branch. There are five fountain tulips under the tree. Near the tree there are two benches, on which it is only necessary to sit, as water jets rise from behind the backs.
During the war, the entire composition of fountains, including an oak, tulips and benches, was destroyed. The fountain was created anew in 1947 by the masters Lavrentiev, according to the project of the architect A.A. Ol and the surviving fragments and drawing from 1828.
