Peterhof Lower Park

Peterhof, St. Petersburg

Description:

The lower park of Peterhof is part of the palace and park ensemble. The model for the park was the country residence of King Louis XIV in Versailles. The layout of the park is characterized by strict symmetry. The basis of its composition is the intersection of two systems of alleys.

The sea channel from the Grand Palace to the bay divides the park into eastern and western parts. From the large flower beds, located on both sides of the bucket of the Sea Channel, four alleys fan out. The east leads to the Monplaisir Palace, the west to the Hermitage Pavilion. Another system of alleys starts from the Marley Palace, from which there are three beams of roads.

In the Lower Park there are 4 cascades and more than 150 fountains. The main fountain is the Grand Cascade with the magnificent Samson fountain. In the stalls at the foot of the cascade are fountains "Cups", "Marble benches". In the western part there are fountains "Orangery", "Adam", "Eve", Roman fountains, "Snope", "Bells", as well as fountains "Pyramid", "Sun", cascade "Chess Mountain", various fountains-jokes. In the eastern part of the park you can admire the cascades "Lion" and "Golden Mountain", also here are of interest fountains "Favorite", "Whale", "Manager" fountains, fountains "Cloches".
