Ekarma Island
ekarma island, Kuril Islands, Sakhalin region
Description:
Ekarma Island is located in the Sea of Okhotsk. It has an area of about 30 square meters. Its parameters are five by eight kilometers. The surface of the island is occupied by two merged volcanoes - East and West. The first to date is very much destroyed due to constant eruptions. It has long been considered extinct and falls more and more every year.
As for the western highlands, it still works. It has the same name as the island. Its height is just over 1000 meters. It is a huge cone-shaped mound consisting of rocks of basalt and andesites. At the top of the volcano is an extrusive dome.
In the memory of seismologists there were only two eruptions of Ekarma. The first in 1767, the second in 1980. But these were not destructive explosions. Just a spew of volcanic dust and gas vapor.
