Walk around the volcano Tolbachik

In Kamchatka, there is a place that best fits the phrase “Martian landscape”. Imagine a vast expanse far from civilization, dotted with colorful volcanic craters, covered with a ten-meter layer of ash, with hot earth underfoot and snow-capped volcanoes on the horizon. This is the area of Tolbachik volcano. We will hike along the most beautiful tourist route of Kamchatka. We will find ourselves on the tops of young volcanoes, where the ground under our feet has not yet cooled from the last eruption. Take a walk through the frozen lava, go down to the bizarre lava caves. Take a photo with the local inhabitants – cute gophers and marmots. We will be surrounded by the highest volcanoes in Asia. The beauty of this place is worth seeing at least once in your life.

Day 1

Beginning of adventure

A team meeting at the airport. With participants who arrive before 14:00, we will start our acquaintance with Kamchatka from the Pacific coast. We will have lunch on the black volcanic sand, meet and discuss our upcoming trip. Then we go to the city and spend the night in the hostel. Day crossing - 110 km.

Day 2

Moving to the North of Kamchatka

We're heading to the beginning of the route. We'll stop at the roadside cafes on the way. In the evening we arrive at the territory of the natural park "Volcanoes of Kamchatka". Get up for the night near the mountain Kopyto with a view of Klyuchevskaya hill and the volcano Kamen. Overnight in tents or in the house of volcanologists. Day crossing - 520 km.

Day 3

Studenoy River Canyon

Beginning of the hiking trail. The morning begins with a small transition to the parking lot at the Barany Rocks, which offers a stunning view of the Tolbachik volcano. We'll stop by the Studenaj River for lunch. In summer, the river completely dries up and there is an opportunity to go down to the canyon, whose height reaches thirteen meters. In the evening we will come to a small spring, the only source of water in this place. Overnight in tents. Day crossing - 18 km.

Day 4

Field of Mars

We continue along the valley, surrounded by volcanoes on all sides. In the evening, we will set up a camp in a place called the Field of Mars, which is located right in the crater of an ancient volcano. Here lives the largest population of black-hatted marmots in Kamchatka, which are sure to penetrate our camp. Overnight in tents. Day crossing - 12 km.

Day 5

Unnamed Volcano

After breakfast we will go to the radial exit light to the volcano Nameless. We will stop at the Polennitsa mountain, completely consisting of geometrically irregular hexagons. The next way will pass through the Pass Nameless. We will have lunch at the house of volcanologists overlooking the volcano Nameless. After lunch, we will go back another way – through the Plotin Pass. We'll be back in camp camp tonight. Day crossing - 13 km.

Day 6

Tolbachin pass

After breakfast, we will lightly climb the crater Mars, from where we will admire the views of nearby volcanoes. We continue our journey to the Tolbachik volcano. We will overcome the Tolbachinsky Pass (1503 m) and establish a camp on a berry glade. Overnight in tents. Day crossing - 8 km.

Day 7

Tolud Pass

Transition to Tolud Base. The name of this place was given to two volcanoes – Tolbachik and Udina – between which it is located. On the way we will overcome the Tolud Pass (1200 m). All day we will walk along the parched river overlooking the Bolshaya Udina volcano. In the evening we will arrive at the tourist base Tolud. Around the base are endless thickets of blueberries and lingonberries, which just keeps up in August. Overnight in tents or a cabin. Day crossing - 13 km.

Day 8

Claw base

We're leaving Tolud base towards Kleshnya base. Most of the day we will walk along the streams of cooled lava left after the eruption of the volcano Tolbachik in 2012. Overnight in tents near the spring in the Kleshnya parking lot, where many funny animals live - Eurasian women who are not afraid of a person. Day crossing - 12 km.

Day 9

Volcano Flat Tolbachik

Climbing the volcano Flat Tolbachik (3085 m). Early rise. The ascent usually takes 7-8 hours and will require considerable physical strength, the distance to the top is 12 km. We'll be back in camp tonight. Day crossing - 24 km.

Day 10

2012 Active Cone

We continue to explore the foot of the Tolbachik volcano. In 2012, the last volcanic eruption occurred, as a result of which lava flows were on the surface. On this day we will visit the lava caves, walk along the lava, climb the cone from which the eruption began. We'll be back in camp tonight. Day crossing - 12 km.

Day 11

1975 Northern Breakthrough

On this day, we will go on an SUV to the tracks of the Big Tolbachinsky fissure eruption (BTTI) of 1975. Climb the cones of the Northern Breakthrough, which have not cooled for more than forty years. For lunch we will stop in the Dead Forest, which died in a catastrophic eruption. Then we will go to the village of Kozyrevsk. Overnight in guest houses, Russian bath. Day crossing is 3 km. Day crossing - 70 km.

Day 12

Return to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky

We will spend the whole day on the way back to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. We'll stay at the hostel tonight. A farewell dinner in town. Day crossing - 520 km.

Day 13

Airport transfer

Before departure, we will visit the fish market, where we will tell you which caviar and red fish are best to bring to your friends. We leave for the airport and say goodbye.
