Petrozavodsk

Petrozavodsk and the surroundings: a damn chair, a sandy beach and a mystical shungite

Description:

A fascinating tour of Petrozavodsk and its surroundings will immerse us in different eras of Russia. I will tell you about the formation of the Petrovsky Sloboda, Swedish and Dutch influence, the Catherine era, the revolutionary upheavals and the great world wars of the 20th century. We will also get to know the beautiful, modern and rapidly developing Petrozavodsk.

The total route of the tour is about 35-40 kilometers, so I can spend it on a personal car, with exits and sightseeing.

The port of the five seas admires its architecture. Ancient pre-war buildings, houses with carved arches and stucco, interesting elements of the Soviet period.

We will visit the heart of the city – Round Square, built under Catherine II. We will see the house where the emperors stayed. We will visit the Governor’s Park and see the Eternal Flame, framed by shungite and shoksha raspberry quartzite.

The embankment of Petrozavodsk is decorated with a monument to its founder - Peter the Great, also during a walk along the embankment we will see monuments of sister cities and street simulators of V. Markelov.

We're going to move to Straw next. This is one of the districts of the northern part of Petrozavodsk, which is almost 150 years older than the capital. Here among coniferous trees in 1951, the Botanical Garden of Petrozavodsk University was founded, where rare plants from different parts of the world are collected, as well as the famous Karelian birch. If you wish, you can visit the garden for an additional fee.

Nearby is a rocky tract Devil's Chair - a place where a volcano erupted millions of years ago. From the frozen lava and turned rocky terrain, resembling the shape of a chair. Spectacular views, mysterious legends and a wonderful view of the city, against which you can arrange a photo shoot.

You can also arrange a mini-photo session on the way to Solomennoye on the shore of the sandy beach “Sands”. If you have a burning desire, you can swim!

Next, we will stop at the Shungita Center, located on the outskirts of the city, where even locals can not get there, as public transport does not go there. “Shungite Center” is a unique combination of a museum, a place for rest and recreation. The museum staff will hold a mini-presentation of shungite and its properties for you, you will visit the shungite room, and at the end of the tour you will taste willow tea and hot drinks. At the site you can buy souvenirs from shungite at the price of the manufacturer. No one will be left without a gift to remember the beautiful Karelia, be it a bracelet, earrings or even shungite shampoo!
