The Chapel of George the Victorious
Russia, Karelia, Medvezhyegorsky district, Keftenitsa
Description:
The Chapel of St. George is located in Karelia in the village of Keftenitsa and is a small Orthodox wooden temple. The time of its construction is not exactly set, but it is assumed that it was built in the second half of the XVII century.
Initially, it consisted of one part of the building, which was a prayer hall. Over time, a porch, a porch and an octagonal belfry in the form of a tent were completed to it, which was dismantled in the thirties of the last century. The iconostasis belonged to unique icons of the XVII-XVIII centuries, which were transferred to the museums of the country.
In 2008, the temple was restored, now the chapel is protected as an object of cultural heritage of Russia.
