Monument to Derzhavin
Description:
In the park next to the Round Square there is a monument to G.R. Derzhavin, the Russian poet and the first governor of the Olonets province. The bronze monument of the poet and statesman in full growth and in a ceremonial uniform is installed on a pedestal of red granite. The total height of the monument is 4.5 meters. According to the authors of the monument - sculptor Walter Soini and architect Emil Kuldavletov - the monument, resembling the figure of Peter I in style, "reflects the poetic essence of one of the greatest poets of Russia of the XVIII century." To achieve external similarity, the image of the poet-governor on a commemorative plaque installed on the house in Petrozavodsk, in which Derzhavin lived, was taken as a basis.
